Part 2: Insulating the Beast
With the floor in place the next and most urgent task was to insulate the walls and ceiling. With a cargo van being little more than a metal box, and Canadian winters being little more than an arctic wasteland, we opted for the pink fibreglass R-30 and sprayfoam to temporarily seal the back doors. Every small hole and crack had to first be sealed with duct tape and reflector tape and/or sprayfoam.
The 'sulation was held in place with twine until the plastic could cover and hold it. Staple gunned in place, the seams were then sealed with more reflector tape; air tightness is of the ultimate importance! Nothing worse than a mystery draft. Originally we had been inspired by (vanbloglink)'s design of minimalist hardwood floor and white panelling for walls, but happened upon canvas dropcloth which proved to be a more cost effective and user friendly alternative.
